Nikos Karathanos

Ateno, Athens

A personal view of contemporary Greek cuisine, drawing from memory and reintroducing the familiar with clarity and substance.

Nikos Karathanos

Ateno, Athens

Nikos Karathanos is the chef behind Ateno in Athens, the restaurant where he expresses his personal view of contemporary Greek cuisine, its traditions and its evolution. His cooking draws from collective memory and familiar flavours, approaching them with precision and creative maturity.

He became the youngest Greek chef to be awarded a Michelin star, before the age of 30, as chef of Hytra. His career includes important stages in restaurants in Athens, London and Stockholm.

With Ateno, he returns to Athens to shape a vision of Greek gastronomy that balances technical excellence with emotional connection. His cuisine is defined by clarity, substance and the desire to reintroduce the familiar through a new perspective.

Within Roots & Routes, Nikos Karathanos brings a voice deeply connected to Greek flavour, yet open to transformation and contemporary expression.
